The Geotechnical Division and the Structural Division organised a joint technical visit to Chengdu, China in December 2016. The delegation interacted with the structural and geotechnical experts of several prestigious institutes, including Institute of Mountain Hazard and Environment (成都山地災害與環境研究所), the State Key Laboratory of Geo-hazard Prevention and Geo-environment Protection of the Chengdu University of Technology (成都理工大學 地質災害防治與地質環境保護國家重點實驗室) and the Southwest Jiaotong University (西南交通大學). Views and knowledge pertaining to experimental and numerical studies of geo-hazards were exchanged. The delegation also witnessed a full-scale rockfall test on a 3,500 kJ flexible barrier manufactured in the Mainland China. In this seminar, the speakers will report details of the joint technical visit and discuss the potential impacts of the China’s latest technical development work on the local practice.
