I am pleased to welcome everyone to the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and the 2025/2026 (the 47 th) session of the Structural Division. This milestone reflects many years of work in the field of structural engineering and our ongoing commitment to the profession and community in Hong Kong.

As I begin my term as Chairman, I look forward to working with our dedicated team of office bearers and committee members. I would like to thank our Immediate Past Chairman, Ir SP Chin, for his leadership and for initiating efforts such as the Young Structural Group, which helps further promote our profession among school students and the public.

Thanks also go to all past Chairmen and committee members for their contributions over the years, which have helped strengthen our division’s profile and professional standing.

During this term, we will continue to promote the advancement of structural engineering and maintaining excellence in the profession through events such as the Structural Excellence Award, Annual Seminar, Annual Dinner, Technical Visits, and various Technical Seminars. We will also focus on integrating emerging technologies and fostering innovative solutions in the field.

To mark the 50th anniversary and encourage more young people to pursue careers in structural engineering, we plan to organize activities like a 50th Anniversary Carnival, student competition, career seminars, and outreach programs aimed at nurturing future talents.
