About the Speaker:

Jo da Silva has been awarded the Institution’s 2017 Gold Medal in recognition of her outstanding work as a structural and humanitarian engineer, and her distinguished and cross-sectoral work on urban resilience.

 

Jo has 30 remarkable years in her career. Since joining Arup, Jo has delivered wide variety of infrastructure and buildings and urban regeneration spanning Asia, Africa and Europe, deprived areas of the UK, and her post-disaster work, including the United Nations’ response to the Indian OceanTsunami.

 

She established the International Development group in Arup, as a not for profit business, allowing the firm to make a greater contribution to humanity and development work. Recently her work focuses on sustainability and resilience solutions in communities and in urban context.

 

Jo da Silva is an Arup Fellow and Director, International Development and Global Leader City Resilience.
