Synopsis:
As part of the public open space to be provided in the “Third Street/Yu Lok Lane/ Centre Street Redevelopment Project”, parts of the building relics and elements as identified in tenement houses at Nos. 9-12 Yu Lok Lane were preserved and integrated as landscape design features. Nos. 9-12 Yu Lok Lane was preserved as feature pavilion to celebrate the ambience of Yu Lok Lane. Buildings at Nos. 11-12 Yu Lok Lane were conserved for adaptive reuse. With the conserved ‘Character Defining Elements’, for example: timber French doors, timber French windows and narrow projections, these 2 groups of tenement houses illustrated the typical character of Chinese tenement buildings of the early 1900’s, and helped to define the ambience of Yu Lok Lane.
