Scope and Objectives

Steel structure design was a common question for qualifying examinations for structural discipline of HKIE and IStructE. This seminar is intended for structural engineers preparing to sit the examination and it will provide guidance and hints for preparing and sitting the examination. The following areas will be covered in the seminar:
General preparation and examination techniques and tactics
Critical points and issues in answering questions
General solutions for steel superstructures and sub-structures and
Review of past questions

The speaker will share his experience with the audiences in taking and passing the examination . Some key issues in preparation of answers for questions in general will be shared with particular focus on steel structures.

Speaker

Ir Dr. Alfred Fong obtained his PhD in 2012 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and passed both the examinations for structural discipline in IStructE and HKIE in his first attempt in 2015 and 2016 respectively. He also published a number of research papers related to steel structures, including one with the best paper award by HKIE in 2010. He is curently a senior structural engineer in Ove Arup (Hong Kong) Limited and has been involved in design of a number of long-span steel strcutures and steel tall buildings in East Asia. He also involves in many scholarly activities including chairman of Young Members Group of HKISC from year 2013-17.

Official Language
Cantonese with English will be the language of the seminar.

Registration fees
Regular Registration: HK$ 800 each for HKISC Members; HK$900 each for non HKISC Members.
Group Registration: HK$ 800 each for group registration of at least 5 people
