Synopsis:
“Footbridge B of Shatin Area 52 Phase 2” was the Grand Award winner in the Infrastructures & Footbridges category of the Structural Excellence Award 2018 organized by the Structural Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. It highlights a distinct structural form, a 78m long vierendeel steel truss supported on twin steel arches, spanning an existing stream with steep slopes and visually blending into the alpine environment. The footbridge forms the most prominent node of pedestrian links for Shui Chuen O Estate, providing a safe and convenient pedestrian link between the new estate sitting on hillside at +63.5mPD and the lower landing of Shui Chuen Au Street at +22.5mPD and eventually to Sha Tin Wai Railway Station. This talk covers the design and the construction of the footbridge.
