Synopsis:

The Hong Kong Children’s Hospital was the Commendation Merit Award winner in the non-residential category of the Structural Excellence Award 2018 organized by the Structural Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. The project is to provide the first specialist children’s hospital in Hong Kong’s public healthcare system and was delivered in a fast track mode through the procurement of the design-and-build contract. It highlights a productivity design in ELS; an iconic feature, a 63m long warren truss and over 46m above ground supported by Two Towers and a full vibration assessment challenging of building. This talk covers the design and the construction of the buildings.

About Speaker:

Ir Prof Adam Siu Chung Choy is a Deputy Managing Director of Meinhardt (C & S) Ltd. Adam is a Registered Structural Engineer. He is also a Fellow Member and Council Member of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Adam has over 30 years of planning and design experience working in engineering consultancy firms. He currently heads the Structural and Geotechnical Divisions in Hong Kong. His main areas of interest are in the design of high-rise buildings, deep basement construction and infrastructure projects.

Ir Garben Lau is a Technical Director of Meinhardt (C&S) Ltd. He has over 10 years’ experience in civil and structural engineering construction experience in multi-disciplinary projects, such as university’s development projects, public rental housing development projects, hospital authority’s development projects.
