Synopsis:
Recent research has developed deep-learning-based intelligent structural design, simulation and structural health monitoring platform to fully utilize the accelerated computing of Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), covering both data-driven and physics-driven artificial intelligence (AI) models. For structural simulation, physics-informed machine learning is developed to replicate the spatial discretization and temporal discretization of conventional finite element solvers by convolutional neural networks and recurrent neural networks. For structural health monitoring (SHM), the state-of-the-art neural operator is trained to predict the damage distribution field based on structural response field. For structural design, dataset is collected for structural design input parameters and structural design drawings, the generative models are learned to generate preliminary structural design drawings of buildings.
About the Speaker:
Dr Jiaji Wang joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong as Assistant Professor in 2023. He obtained his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University supervised by Prof. Jianguo Nie. Dr Wang published 36 SCI papers as first or corresponding author. Dr Wang’s Web of Science citation is 565 and H-index is 16. Dr Wang has also been awarded Scientific and Technological Outstanding Award in 2019 by China Steel Construction Society. Dr Wang’s research contributed to design and construction of Yinchuan Greenland Centre and Beijing New Shougang bridge. Dr Wang’s recent research is focused on AI for accelerated design, simulation, and health monitoring of engineering structures.
