Background
The World Conference on Floating Solutions (WCFS) was initiated by the “Society of Floating Solutions, Singapore (SFSS)” in 2019, with the aim of bringing together international experts and leaders to share and discuss recent research and developments in floating solutions. The second WCFS was held in Rotterdam in 2020, followed by the third conference in Tokyo in 2023.

Scope and objectives

WCFS aims to gather international experts and leaders to share and discuss recent research and advancements in floating solutions. The 2024 WCFS will continue to serve as a dynamic forum for researchers, architects, engineers, consultants, manufacturers, government officials, academics, and postgraduate students involved in floating solutions. The conference will cover a broad range of topics, including but not limited to Architecture, Climate Change and Disaster Response, Environmental Enhancement, Food Security and Sustainability, Innovation & Technology, Renewable Energy, Urban Planning, Policy, Social Acceptance, and Legal Matters.

Keynote Speakers

Prof. Torgeir MOAN is a professor emeritus of Marine Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and former Director of a Norwegian Centre of research excellence, CeSOS. Prof. Moan has served on the Royal inquiry Commission of the Alexander L. Kielland accident and other accident inquiries and on various committees for the industry and standardization organizations for offshore structures (e. g. lSO); wind turbines (lEC) and floating bridges (NPRA). He has served as the inaugural adjunct Keppel professor at the National University of Singapore and has honorary academic positions at several leading Chinese universities. Professor Moan’s main disciplines are structural analysis and design and, with a focus on stochastic dynamic analysis and safety assessment. He has carried out research as well as engineering design and analysis of innovative concepts of ships, oil and gas platforms, floating bridges and offshore wind turbines Professor Moan has delivered about 50 keynote and award lectures at major conferences and received several international awards, e.g. including the (first) Bruce Wallace award at MlT; Statoil Research Prize, the James W. Rice award of ASME; the Offshore Energy Center Hall of Fame Award, Houston; Petroleum Safety Authority Award and several best paper awards. He has been elected Fellow of five Academies including the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Chien-Ming WANG is a professor in Structural Engineering, The University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, and a Fellow of Academy of Engineering Singapore. His research interests are in the areas of structural mechanics and floating structures. He is the Leader of the Offshore Engineering Program of the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre that conducts research projects that combine seafood, renewable energy and offshore engineering, underpinned by a $329million grant from the Australian Government and industry partners over a10-year period. His current research focuses on the development of offshore aquaculture infrastructure.

Prof. Masashi KASHIWAGI got his PhD in 1984 at Osaka University, worked at RlAM, Kyushu University (1985-2007), and returned to Osaka University in 2008. He retired in March 2021 with the title of Professor Emeritus of both Kyushu and Osaka Universities. His major topics in the research are the slender-ship theory and its application to seakeeping problems, wave-induced steady forces hydroelasticity problems in VLFS, multiple body-wave interactions, violent-flow problems using CFD techniques, unsteady wave-pattern analysis and its application to added resistance, and so on. He was editor-in-chief of Applied Ocean Research for 2005-2018, and president of Japan Society of Naval Architects &Ocean Engineers (JASNAOE) for 2017-2019.He received Best-Paper Awards several times, C-H Kim Award, 34th Georg Weinblum Memorial Lectureship, Jin S. Chung Award, Best Lecture Award, and so on. Prof. Kashiwagi is a fellow of SNAME since 2018 and an honorary member of JASNAOE since 2020. Currently he is an executive technical advisor of Hyundai Engineering & Construction in Korea.
