Synopsis:

The KTIL 240 project is a redevelopment project which the site was previously home to the KMB bus depot. The project is located at 98 How Ming Street, which is at the heart of the Kwun Tong
District. The redevelopment marks the start of a new era for the district and could be a catalyst for rejuvenating an area traditionally known as one of Hong Kong’s industrial heartlands.

KTIL 240 features a two 20-storey tower office building and a retail podium with a total GFA of 1.15 million square feet. The on plan dimension of the site is around 160m x 80m and the height of
the towers is around 160m. There is 4 level of basement with 22m excavation in the soft ground, which is one of the most challenging design and construction tasks.

This talk focuses on the challenges and various outstanding structural design solutions applied during the design and construction stages, from innovative ELS design using concrete waling beam, double top-down construction method, the use of extended socketed H-piles group as temporary support for top-down construction, adoption of modular struts and waling, innovative connection design between bored pile and basement slab and so forth.
