Synopsis:
The Henderson at No. 2 Murray Road is a high-rise commercial development of 36 storeys high resting on a 5-level basement. The external building shape possesses well designed curvatures and set-backs to imitate Hong Kong’s emblem, bauhinia, the construction of which requires installation of double curvature glass panels supported by inclined columns. To meet the pronounced wind load effects due to the height and slenderness of the Building and to provide spacious office space with 24m free of columns, “out-rigger” structures with belt trusses together with large span floor structures and giant columns are designed. To facilitate layout planning for optimal use of office spaces, the corewall is located at one side of the Building by which “Building Tilt” problem emerged, requiring compensation tilt in the reverse direction during construction.

The deep basement construction work was another great challenge as the Site is in the midst of 5 MTR tunnels requiring great care in design and construction to safeguard them from excessive settlements and vibrations.
The seminar will be delivered in Cantonese, supplemented by English terms where relevant.
